Message from Pastor Reynolds: PEACE! This is the word the Sunday School children will be using in our worship this Sunday. PEACE is what our world is desiring so badly. Take a trip around the world in your thinking today, remember where your missionary friends are serving the Lord and see if the word PEACE just might be needed where they serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Countries around the world are seeking peace, our states, cities, towns, schools-you name it even churches are looking for peace. I believe that PEACE was first found in the Garden of Eden where God placed Adam and Eve, where He came down to commune with them in the cool of the evening. Both God and man looked forward to this until one day the serpent (Gen 3) beguiled man and from that time on that fellowship went missing, Adam and Eve went into hiding. We find God asking the first question recorded in the Word of God, "Adam, where are you"? God today still asks this question of every living being. God wants fellowship with the man He has created. You see, when Satan got through with his divisive plan, mankind lost that PEACE. A trip through the scriptures shows no peace in book after book. In the prophet Isaiah there is the promise of the coming of the Prince of Peace but centuries roll by without this becoming a reality. But there were a few Godly Jewish folk who kept this promise alive when the world as such had long given up on this event ever becoming reality. Matthew and Luke give this account of the coming of the Prince of Peace. The message of the New Testament is that Jesus is the giver of PEACE today. It can only be found in Him. I expect that here in our church we will be singing the song "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin in me". That's the key, folks! We have to first find this peace for ourselves. Jesus offers it to each one. What have you done with God's beloved Son? To be at PEACE yourself means that this Prince of PEACE is living within your heart today. "Nuff said!
Message from Pastor: This Sunday November 27th is the first Sunday in Advent. The word Advent means "coming" or "appearing" relating to Jesus Christ. This Sunday's key word is HOPE. We hear and use this word every day in many ways. We live in a world of hope: better job, or a job, better health... you name it, mankind seems to always have hope somewhere in their everyday living. The HOPE that I am addressing is a spiritual hope. I think it started way back in the garden of Eden in Genesis 3:14-17 when God promised Satan that Eve's offspring would be his demise. All through the years Israel lived in the HOPE of Messiah's coming to redeem fallen mankind. Isaiah tells us of a child being born (9:6-7) and several other prophets of Israel kept this hope alive through the centuries of Hebrew history. Israel was always hoping their Redeemer would soon appear. The last chapter in the Old Testament bears out that blessed HOPE. It is in Matthew's account and later on in Luke that the birth of Jesus is revealed to us. We find a precious few in the Jewish world awaiting it however. Sometimes HOPE wavers, right? But spiritual HOPE never does because God never changes! A promise from the Lord Almighty is an eternal promise that mankind can accept and rely upon forever as well. A trip through our Bible and through our hymnals will find that word HOPE over and over again. It is a wonderful word and we need to hide that word in our hearts forever. Now, what we have been talking about thus far is Christ's first Advent. That's what Christmas is all about. We in the church world talk about Jesus second Advent. Here again we use that wonderful word HOPE! He has made a promise to every one trusting in His name and redemptive power that we shall be with Him forever. That is the HOPE of the church today. We proudly present Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior and soon coming King. Do you have this HOPE, dear reader? It's offered to you by the author Himself. Reach out in faith and accept it. If you have done this, then tell me about it so I can show you still more wonders found within His HOLY WORD. We here at Second Congregational want you to know what HOPE is all about. Consider coming and growing with us.
Fri 10:51am Message from Pastor Reynolds: How quickly 2016 is winding down. Here at 2nd Congregational Church, our sanctuary will be sporting holiday decorations for Advent season. Next week Thanksgiving will be celebrated . A lot has happened in our world this past year. As mentioned previously, many people are angry, marching and mouthing! Wondering just where and how do we fit in here. What can we do? Someone has said it summed up in 2 words...STOP IT! Let's look at Thanksgiving and Christmas both look to God and thank Him for His love and faithfulness. Thanksgiving began in a small manner after the colony at Plymouth, MA had buried half their numbers following a severe winter and disease. These pilgrims along with a few Indians thanked God together for bringing them through many severe trials. They found God to be faithfully watching over them with a caring, nurturing spirit. Survivors in this new world ! Christmas: again God GIVING to mankind, the greatest gift that one could ever receive-His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. His humble birth made the angels rejoice "peace on earth, goodwill to man". It seems to this Pastor that we should rejoice with the angels and receive His Son and the blessings of everyday life. Let's look to Him and thank Him for America and stop despising one another. Do you call yourself a Christian? I do. Then you and I are only beggars here telling one another where the Bread of Life is. Let's have a blessed Thanksgiving and a joyous Christmas!
Congratulations to the winner our Thanksgiving Basket Raffle Winner "Jo-Ann Macomber". And many thanks to everyone who helped make this years Heavenly Christmas Craft Fair such a huge success.
